EVO or Competizione:
which suits you

They aren't the same game with a different name. One is a specialised simulator; the other wants to cover far more ground. Which you want depends on what you want it for.

In brief

The difference in one sentence

Competizione is a simulator specialised in one championship. EVO wants to be a driving simulator in the broad sense.

Everything else follows from that. Competizione does one specific thing with enormous depth: GT cars, endurance formats, regulations and everything that surrounds that competition. EVO covers far more ground — road cars, classics, varied categories — and therefore spreads its effort.

Neither is "better". They're answers to different questions.

Catalogue

Content: variety versus specialisation

Competizione lives around one category and its circuits. That has an underappreciated advantage: when every car belongs to the same family, racing is very close and learning one transfers to the rest.

EVO mixes modern road cars, classics, sports cars and very different racing machinery. You go from eighties hatchbacks to current GT3s by way of single-seaters. Learning them doesn't transfer the same way: a classic without aids and a GT3 with aero don't drive remotely alike.

Practical consequence: if you get bored lapping the same thing, EVO's variety is welcome. If what you want is to master one category thoroughly, specialisation works in your favour.

Feel

Driving and feel

Both are serious simulators, with modelled tyres, weight transfer and degradation. The differences you feel at the wheel:

If you come from Competizione, what will surprise you most is how little cars without aids forgive. That's normal: you're not worse, you're driving something else.

Competition

For competition

This is where Competizione's specialisation shows: with one dominant, widespread category, finding races of the same kind is straightforward.

In EVO variety cuts the other way: there are more car types, so the community spreads out. Which is why organised communities matter more — they're what concentrates people in one format at one time, and that's what makes a full grid possible.

It's exactly what we do here: a 24/7 server with a voted rotation, a league with a calendar and stewards, and a directory where other people list theirs. Without that, variety turns into half-empty servers.

Decision

Which to choose

If you…Go for
Want to race GT in endurance formatsCompetizione
Are starting out and want to learn to driveEVO
Like classics and road carsEVO
Want full grids in one categoryCompetizione
Get bored lapping the same carEVO
Want to master one category deeplyCompetizione

And the honest answer almost nobody gives: plenty of people own both, and they overlap less than you'd think. One for the serious Sunday league, the other for driving a classic on a quiet evening.

If you settle on EVO and you're coming from another sim, start with the first few hours, which saves you the usual stumbles.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does EVO replace Competizione?

It doesn't replace it: they're different propositions. Competizione is focused on official GT competition, while EVO opens up to road cars, classics and other categories.

Can I use the same wheel and the same settings?

The hardware works for both, but force feedback settings are worth revisiting: each game delivers force its own way and what's right in one can clip in the other.

Do setups transfer between them?

As a conceptual reference yes; as exact values, no. The tyre and suspension models aren't identical, so a copied setup behaves differently.

Which is better to start sim racing?

EVO, because of the range of cars: you learn better in forgiving cars with less grip than by going straight to a GT3, which forgives a lot and hides your mistakes.
